I am Şermin Kütükçü. Living in different cities as a child affected me negatively so I was not successful in school. My family enrolled me in a childcare and early childhood education programme at a vocational high school.
My grades in high school were pretty good. Since we were divided into small groups in our programme’s lessons, our teachers communicated with us individually. The fact that most of my lessons were practical made my school life more enjoyable. One of my teachers used to bring us books so that we could get in the habit of reading.
I try to do the same with my students. After high school, I passed the exams and enrolled at the Konya Selcuk University in the child development My first teaching appointment was at Mardin Midyat. I worked to bring girls back to school in Midyat.
I had finished my master’s degree before focusing on writing a book, and have now written five books related to my field. Vocational high schools support and develop creativity for both teachers and students.
My students think that they started life at a disadvantage compared to their peers at other schools. To address this preconception, I share my book-writing process with my students to create a butterfly effect.
