To convey perception and vision in vocational education

I am a teacher in the Department of Installation and Air Conditioning at Bayraklı Nuri Atik Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. A space agency was established in Turkey and it inspired us. We thought we should do something in this field and decided to develop a telescope.

We reviewed the materials in our workshops and started working, feeling this would also lead to an opportunity for interdepartmental collaboration between fields as is our school’s philosophy. The Furniture Department produces desks from recycled materials.

We got a cardboard tube from recycled materials and placed a mirror produced by our department in it. The photocell will be produced by the Machine Technology Department. The Computer Technology Department is preparing sensors to be included.

We used environmentally friendly and recyclable materials. This is important for our first domestic and national telescope. I am a graduate of a vocational high school. I perceive materials not as ordinary objects, but as objects that will turn into other materials – a telescope, for example. I try to convey this perception and vision to my students.
