The vocational education system in Slovenia, which has been in place since 2005, is very different from the traditional one as students do not have subjects but instead work on challenging assignments prepared by teams of teachers over the course of their four-year education.
First, we visited the Tolosaldea School in the Basque Country of Spain, where we were given an overview of its activities and facilities.
Then we drove to Tknika, a high-tech institution for the development of vocational education in the Basque Country, where we were met by the Basque Deputy Minister for Vocational Education. We were first introduced to the institution by its director.
Afterwards, we had a tour of the individual departments, the most interesting of which were biochemistry, virtual reality, cybersecurity, virtual construction, mechatronics, 3d printing and mechanical engineering.
There was a lecture on the introduction of the updated vocational training, which was partly introduced on the first day at the school. After a final discussion with the Deputy Minister, a workshop followed in which we analysed what we had seen and heard.
