Broadening horizons

An Erasmus+ vocational traineeship helped Katja to embrace a new country, language and culture.
Katja Nigsch was training to become a graphic designer when she got the chance to undertake a vocational traineeship at the Connacht Tribune newspaper in County Galway, Ireland. It was a great opportunity, but both a new country and a new language meant that Katja had some initial misgivings about leaving Liechtenstein behind and moving abroad.
By the end of her traineeship, that had all changed. Katja’s English language skills had improved immensely and she’d found a new confidence in her ability to live and work internationally. Her time in Ireland also allowed her to appreciate the wealth of knowledge that there is to be gained from adapting to new ways of life and being open to other cultures.
Katja took her newfound confidence and skills back with her when she returned home. She now works as an office assistant at the Liechtenstein Ministry of Health during the week and at an art museum at the weekend.
