Developing skills for developing apps

Millions of Europeans use mobile apps each day. It’s an industry with vast potential, but one that requires specific skills – which is where Vet4Apps came in.
The mobile app market is one of the fastest growing in the EU and offers a wealth of opportunities for eager jobseekers. Despite this, positions often go unfilled due to a lack of the high level, job-specific skills that the industry demands. The Vet4Apps project was established with one key aim: to overcome this deficit and help app entrepreneurs, employees, learners and freelance developers to gain the skills to excel in this cutting-edge market.
Funded through the Erasmus+ programme from 2014-2016, Vet4Apps was a joint initiative between education institutions and NGOs in France, Greece, Slovenia and the UK. The project delivered training in mobile app business and design skills, and utilised training methods that allow participants to assess their skills and progress.
The project put the interests and needs of the participants first by allowing them to choose what units they would like to study and by offering flexible training through a massive open online course (MOOC). Accessible from anywhere in the EU, the MOOC allowed participants to learn at their own pace and to balance their study around their work- and home-lives.
