Leaving school and joining the workforce can be challenging. Luckily for young Austrians, the spacelabs project offers workshops and training to help with the transition.
The spacelab project, based in four locations across Vienna, is supporting young people who are struggling with the school-to-work transition by helping them to plan their future careers and giving them a taste of real working life.
Hosted by the Production School Vienna and supported by the ESF, spacelab is open to 15-24 year olds who aren’t in education, employment or training. The project takes a modular approach, allowing young people to participate at their own convenience, with these modules including counselling, coaching, daily vocational training, knowledge workshops and practical training sessions.
The workshops and sessions cover themes such as gardening and ecology, media projects and creative skills, handicrafts and health, and culture and technology, depending on location. Classes in more traditional subjects like German, maths and English are also available.
In order to make spacelabs as open and easy to access as possible, an information day is held every Tuesday at each of the four locations. Young people can attend without needing to register and they can also join the modules at any time, depending on available space.
