Throughout 2019, events and activities are taking place across Europe as part of European Vocational Skills Week. The actual Week itself will take place between 14-18 October in Helsinki, Finland, reflecting the advanced nature of vocational education and training (VET) in this country that is also currently hosting the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

European Vocational Skills Week offers plenty of events throughout the year to get involved in.

The Week aims to promote the value of VET and this year Finland will be its main stage. Over 1000 events and activities have already been registered from all over Europe, of which 61 happening in Finland, and the number keeps growing!

One of the most remarkable examples is the Tour of the Artificial Intelligence truck in Espoo and Vantaa. Participants will be able to experience and try AI directly in the truck, where the organisers will show them the main concepts and functionalities of this ground-breaking technology that is already changing our every day and work life, as well as enhancing human capabilities. The truck was built by Omnia vocational education students and Aalto University students and will tour the Capital Region.

Another great example is the Future Expert Fair, a fair focused on VET that will take place in Kokkola. At the fair, vocational education will be presented to the students from the secondary schools of the Central Ostrobohnia area. In the evening, the focus of the fair will shift to adult education, as potential adult learners and the younger learners’ parents will be invited to attend. The event will introduce to hundreds of the students from many towns in Central Ostrobothia area the entire vocational training range offered by Kpedu, the Central Ostrobothnia Educational Consortium.

Taking part in the Week therefore provides a unique opportunity for Finnish organisations working in VET. To take part, VET-related organisations simply need to register an event. No matter how large or small the event, or how small your budget or footfall may be, as long as your event is taking place during 2019 you can still take part by registering on the European Vocational Skills Week 2019 website.
