Throughout 2019, events and activities are taking place across Europe as part of European Vocational Skills Week. The actual Week will take place between 14-18 October in Helsinki, but there are plenty of events throughout the year to get involved in.

European Vocational Skills Week aims to promote the value of vocational education and training (VET). Over 1000 events and activities have already registered from all over Europe, and the number keeps growing!

VET-related organisations in Greece are also playing an active role in the Week, promoting opportunities for upskilling workers and facilitating their entry or re-entry into the labour market.

One of the most remarkable examples is the event on modern manufacturing methods organised by the vocational training organisations Egrastiriako Kentro on the 11th of November in Thiva, in the central Greek region of Boeotia. In particular, the event will focus on the vocational skills related to 3D printing, both in terms of design and printing technique. Thus, participants will acquire skills in design software, use of a 3D printer software (slicers), and G-Code. 3D printing is one of the most promising fields of industrial production. The whole spectrum of potential uses of 3D printing in everyday life will be explored, ranging from home use as a creative activity to professional skills in terms of software and general expertise.

Another interesting case is the Soft Skills workshop organised by Nestlé and Adecco in Xanthi, in the Greek region of Thrace, on the15th of October. This interactive workshop will address opportunities and challenges in the current labour market, notably focusing on the main soft skills that an employer is looking for. Particular attention will be given to the digital footprint and how this affects one’s personal branding during the recruitment process. A CV clinic and tips on how to prepare better before an interview will also be covered. This employability workshop intends to support young people by focusing on the soft skills that they should develop and on the preparation they should do to have a successful interview.

Taking part in the Week therefore provides a unique opportunity for Greek organisations working in VET. To take part, VET-related organisations simply need to register their events and activities taking place during 2019. No matter how large or small the event, or how small your budget or footfall may be, as long as your event is taking place during 2019 you can take part by registering on the European Vocational Skills Week 2019 website.
