I have always dreamt about taking part in a traineeship in a foreign country. There was such an opportunity because my school organised the vocational practice in Palermo, Italy.
We visited Palermo for two weeks. On the first day, we felt excited because it was a new place for us. We met one of the organizers, Magda. She helped us all the time when we encountered some obstacles.
From Monday to Friday, we went to different restaurants and hotels where we worked. For us, that has been a new experience. Everyone learned more about Italian cuisine, new methods and techniques used in the Sicilian kitchen. We had a chance to improve our Italian because our colleagues spoke their mother tongue, most of the time. At the weekend, we explored the beautiful places around Palermo, for example, Cefalù or Monreale. The Capuchin Catacombs impressed me. It was both a scary and fascinating experience.
On the last day, we said goodbye to co-workers and received a certificate at the meeting from the representative of the Enso Group. After arriving back in Poland, I am now inspired to discover new cultures and dishes of other foreign countries. If you have a chance to take part in such a project, you should not hesitate at all.
