Reflections on the issues facing TVET and its potential in the time of COVID-19

It has been a challenging few weeks for all of us. But it is also a time for us to reflect upon our own work, our own potential, and how technical vocational education and training (TVET) institutions can contribute to overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on youth, working adults, and the community.

We invite you to read a reflection piece on this, which was prepared by Prof. Shyamal Majumdar (Independent TVET Expert and former UNESCO TVET Specialist) and Mr. Iñigo Araiztegui (Tknika, Basque VET Research Centre). In the report, the authors are proposing some ideas on possible strategies and responses that can be considered by TVET systems and institutions over different time spans when planning their actions. They also aim to throw some light on the possible parameters for short-term (immediate), mid-term, and long-term actions. They propose some recommendations for advancing the debate, since COVID-19 has raised many fundamental concerns regarding the way we live, we work, we consume and we act.

The authors remain open to developing their ideas further, if you have any other views you would like to share. They invite more conversations and guidance from those that are actively working to support the VET community.
