Studying abroad brings rewards

When Einar travelled to Vienna as part of VET exchange programme, the experience had a strong, positive impact on his life and career.
Craftsman and designer Einar Nilsson is well-known in his native Norway, thanks to his time on the popular TV home makeover show Tid for hjem. What most people probably don’t know is that he’s also a former VET student who spent three months in Venice, Italy as part of an exchange programme.
During his time in Venice, Einar studied the conservation of wall paintings and traditional Italian restoration techniques. He also met a range of inspiring fellow craftspeople from across Europe who had come to the city for similar reasons, and brought their own unique skills and experiences with them.
The experience was a transformative one for Einar. When he returned to Norway, he took everything he’d learned in Vienna with him and began to incorporate it into his work. “Cultural exchange is very important, to see how things are done in other parts of the world,” he says. “It’s about variety, and I think variety is great!”
