My story begins in Slovenia. I am a student nurse. At school they offered us work at a nursing home for three weeks. The best information was that the nursing home is in Ireland. I loved the idea of working in Ireland, learning about the culture and meeting new people.
That’s why I said yes to this opportunity. So in February this year I flew to Dublin, Ireland. I was the only student from my school. It was really scary at first but then I realised that I don’t have to be scared, because I wasn’t actually alone, I had my phone and Google Maps. Google Maps was really helpful.
I lived with a lovely older Irish couple in Sligo. They took really good care of me, cooked traditional Irish dishes and showed me all around Sligo. Now comes the interesting part of my journey…
The nursing home. It was different. My shift was 12 hours long. The work system and process was almost the same as in Slovenia. I quickly learned that the Irish people are the nicest people I have ever met. That’s why I loved working with them.
They helped me a lot and showed me how it is done in Ireland. I have grown a lot in these three weeks in Ireland. It was a positive experience for me.
