In the Erasmus+ Key Action 2 (KA2)-funded project, we wanted to promote VET and increase its attractiveness. Our idea was to partner with seven primary schools from Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia, and with the Educational Institute from Austria and the Secondary School of Mechanical Engineering of the School Center Ptuj in Slovenia as lead partners, to manufacture a unique small electric car.
The project of manufacturing a small car starting from the chassis, which was the same for all primary schools, encouraged teamwork. The pupils developed their creative skills through upgrading the chassis, learnt about material properties, searched for the most appropriate spare parts, developed their business skills and improved their manual skills since the students of each primary school had to build their small cars themselves.
The project activities enabled School Centre Ptuj to promote to primary school students its technical training and, more importantly, occupations for which there is a shortage of qualified personnel and great demand in the job market.
The indirect goal of the project was to convince as many students as possible to continue their studies at technical schools – a goal which we achieved with great success.
