The aim of our project was the cooperation of students from different cities in Croatia to research and compare trade in the past and today. The students from the city of Split made a map of Roman roads in Dalmatia and described the methods and materials used by the Romans to build the roads.
The students from the city of Zadar presented products and trading methods of Dalmatian merchants. They compared Split and Zadar as important trading ports on the Adriatic coast. As a great way to motivate students, we used game elements in the last project task.
The students created an avatar of a merchant from the Roman era and wrote a story that connected cultural heritage with the merchant’s profession. With this cooperation between the two vocational schools, we as teachers expanded the curriculum with interesting facts about trade customs and the economy, and gave students the opportunity to show creativity and to develop vocational, communication and digital competencies. Students' work can be seen on the Padlet digital bulletin board.
