After comprehensive school, I studied for one year at an upper secondary school but reading about subjects didn’t suit me. I wanted to learn a trade. The social and healthcare field interested me so I applied to Sataedu for practical nurse training.
Instead of studying with young people, my study counsellor offered me a chance to study with adults. The team spirit was great, and I gladly stayed in the adult group, as the older learners were like a squad of supportive moms and dads.
We had only studied childcare in the classroom when the Covid pandemic closed all the daycare centres and our traineeships had to be done at a nursing home. It was not only a change for us as learners - it was also new for the staff as it occurred due to the pandemic. Working life taught me a lot.
Besides professional and practical skills, I grew as a person and learned to take responsibility at 17 years of age. While studying, I worked part-time at daycare centres and nursing homes. Working at my grandma’s nursing home allowed me to see her despite the restrictions.
After two years of studies, I graduated in December 2021 with a qualification in practical nursing. Today, I work with children at a daycare centre.
I like my job a lot, but I plan to continue my studies in the future.
