The 3Ts – trip, traineeship and training

A student study trip, a traineeship and a staff training trip – a project led by the Reykjavik School of Visual Arts had something for everyone.
The Reykjavik School of Visual Arts, or Myndlistaskolinn i Reykjavik (MíR), offers diplomas in subjects such as drawing, ceramics, textiles and painting. From 2014-2016, the school partnered with fellow art institutions in Finland and the UK on a project designed to build closer links and encourage innovative approaches to education.
The project consisted of three parts: a student study trip, a VET traineeship and a staff training trip. Through the study trip, 14 MíR students visited the University of Cumbria in the UK – a potential home for the third year of their diploma. They were introduced to art and design courses, the UK’s university system and prospective future jobs.
The VET traineeship allowed students from the textile department to gain specialist knowledge in areas such as knitting, textile printing and textile patterns, as well as business development and entrepreneurship.
Staff from MíR were able to meet their European counterparts through the training trip. They shared experiences, innovative teaching practices and evaluation methods, and the knowledge they gained was later used to further develop MíR’s diplomas and approach to teaching.
