Future fishermen in the Czech Republic receive training and support from their colleagues across the border with help from a VET project.
Třeboň Secondary Vocational Training School in the Czech Republic specialises in lake fishing – a discipline the country is famous for. Recognising that it wasn’t enough for its students to acquire knowledge and skills within a small region – and wanting to help them broaden their horizons – the school established partnerships with a number of similar schools in other European countries. These partnerships led to student exchange projects, many of which are supported by the ESF.
The school’s partner school in Poland is based in Giżycko, which is located within the famous Masurian Lake District region. Exchanges have been taking place for over 10 years, with Czech students getting the chance to experience the unusual landscaping of the lakes in the Masurian area. Activities have included visits to universities and fishing institutes, as well as traineeships at local fishing farms that practice free-range fish trapping with breeds not found in the Czech Republic.
In return, Polish students have travelled to Třeboň, where they’ve also been introduced to a new region and different approach to lake-based fishing. The exchanges have helped a new generation of Czech and Polish fishermen improve their skills and gain a greater knowledge of the lake fishing industry in Europe, while also opening their eyes to new opportunities.
