World Skills Sweden

world skills sweden

My name is Pontus, I live in Stockholm, Sweden, and I am one of the ambassadors for VET Week. My VET journey started when I was 15 years old and I was figuring out what I wanted to do in the future. I found interest in the electrical field and I applied to a school to become an electrician.

After three years in school, I started as an apprentice and then became an electrician. I had the opportunity to participate in national and international competitions. As a young electrician, I competed in the nationals in 2002. I then got the opportunity to represent Sweden in World Skills Competition in 2003, in the skill Electrical Installation. Although I did not win a gold award, I gained a "once in a lifetime" experience.

A few years later, my old teacher called me and asked if I would consider becoming a teacher. The idea sounded interesting and after one year, I started working as a teacher in the same school I once was a student. I studied and worked at the same time and found the job as a teacher satisfying.

After four years of teaching, I got the opportunity to work for a branch organisation as an expert. That job gave me opportunities to work with VET at a national level for the industry.

A few years later, I got the opportunity to become the CEO of World Skills Sweden. Today I run a company owned by the social partners with the goal of increasing the attractiveness, status and quality of Swedish VET.

My VET journey started when I was 15 years old and the journey continues. VET is a smart choice and can offer a great start to a long and exiting journey!
